Volunteering

We are run by a team of dedicated volunteers and caring trustees, who assist with the overseeing of the charity. Our volunteers contribute in many different ways, including; mentoring, workshop facilitation, fundraising, marketing and administration. Our trustees ensure the charity complies with all the relevant government guidelines and offer their individual skills. We always need new volunteers and trustees, so if you feel you have skill, or just want to volunteer your time, please get in touch.

Opportunities

Mentoring

Our volunteer mentors give our young service users the opportunity to build up a trusted and mutual relationship, usually for 6 months, but can be up to 12 months. Mentors are trained using the XL-Mentoring Project (XLP) – a nationally accredited scheme. Mentors are appointed through a rigorous recruitment process, including interview by the CEO and two Trustees, DBS, references and vetting procedures, completing specialist training and undertaking safeguarding training every 2 years. Mentors are required to undergo further specialist training each year, regular supervision (every 6 weeks) and attend mentor network meetings. Mentors are required to follow the charity’s Safeguarding Policy and Procedures, Code of Conduct and Working Alone Procedure.  We only accept applications from females to be mentors.

If you are interested in becoming a trained volunteer mentor, please contact Patricia Muirhead (CEO/Founder) by email: ashdonjazzacademy@yahoo.co.uk or use the online form below.

Fundraising

We welcome businesses, groups and individuals to get involved by planning fundraising events, such as, marathons, fund runs, sponsored cycle rides, homemade cake sales, quiz nights, etc. You may be interested in organising a one-off event or helping on a more regular basis.  Fundraising of this kind enables us to provide our core services (mentoring, drop-in sessions, outreach work and female only events, such as, conferences and workshops). Any money raised will make a significant contribution towards our part time staff salaries, volunteer expenses, training, activity resources, room hire, utilities and insurance. Individual donors can also increase their giving by using Gift Aid.
